This tip is nice if you have multiple partitions/drives and each one is dedicated to one function, i.e. music, video's etc. 

 

Open your registry and find the key below. 

If not already present, add a new key called "DriveIcons" and then place a new key under this that corresponds to the drive letter you wish to change.  C for C:\, A for A:\ for example.

 

Under the newly created drive key, place 2 Keys named DefaultIcon and DefaultLabel.  Set DefaultIcon's "Default" value to the full path and name of the Icon you wish to use.  Set DefaultLabel's "Default" value to the drive label you would like to use.


Key:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons]
Key Name: DefaultIcon, DefaultLabel
Default Value Data:(Icon, Label)
