Just had a similar problem. The LAN connection disappeared completely, due to a problem with the driver. It showed as an exclamation mark in Device Manager. On reinstalling the driver, it hung on "Preparing Network Connections" on a reboot. I restarted in safe mode, logged on as local admin, removed the network adapter completely and the Deterministic Net Enhancer assocaited with it. Leave the WAN miniports alone. Scan for hardware changes which will pick it up again, and the reinstall the network adapters. This should fix it. I couldn't remove the adapters when logged on normally because it blue screened.
