I you can get your hands on an external zip drive that would probably by the easiest. You just plug it into your parallel port, load the zip software and use it the same way you would a floppy disk. Then just hook it up to your new pc and copy the data back off. If you think you would have trouble hooking up a CD-R drive then the hard drive option is probably not a good option either.
