You number one problem is going to be line noise. When the phone company checks your line, they are checking it for "Speach" quality. As long as you are not hearing crosstalk, static, etc, your phone line, according to the phone company, is perfect. I have been at long battles with phone companies about this very same problem, when I finally get down to the meat of things, I was told that most phone companies will only promise 9600-14.4,(fax machine data rates) connection rate, anything above that, they won't touch it. The only thing you could do would to keep complaining to the phone company, but it really won't do much good, because its probably a problem with the line miles from your location and they aren't going to run you personally a new fresh line. The only way they will promise a higher connection speed is if you purchase ISDN.
